Shark Week

Its Shark Week relapse today. So for "today only" all of 2009's Shark Week shows are stockpiled and run continuously all day. Shark Week is only the best week on television, I wait all year for it. When I found out that Discovery Channel Asia were replaying this summer's Shark Week I flipped and texted a scad of people, which is harder than it sounds when you are an elliptical machine.
Sadly, my World Lit. paper is due, so my idealistic dream of spending hours of watching shark week will remain just that...a dream. boo. Though after working out this morning, I did eat crepes with ligonberrys while watching a "documentary" on the 1916 shark attacks. I don't know if it counts as a documentary if there are actors who dress up like the witnesses and reenact what happened/interviews. No worries. Lingonberry crepes + Sharks equal a perfect combination.

The documentary is itself very depressing, for an avidshark lover at least, especially considering the negativity surroundingsharks, intended or not. It may be "cool" and "fun" to watch them saw off things with their teeth and attack, but it presents such a poor image and publicity of sharks. The way sharks are imaged is the exact polar opposite of positive, its rare to hear documentation of their power or beauty. Nor their intelligence, powerful problem solving skills or curiosity. Instead they are scary, ugly beasts who are feeding machines. We fear them harming ourselves - but we never think of all the damage we are doing to them. We are hunting them to extinction, 100 million of sharks per year are captured to have their fins sawed off and tossed back to drown. Humans are cruel. How indecent can you get, to abuse an animal that has done nothing? Does it give people satisfaction knowing the hurt and murder they caused when they eat Shark Fin Soup? I feel bad for sharks, they are submissive to our whims. Because of their poor image, fueled by the media, its hard to instigate awareness of the issue and once again they get screwed over. Hopefully, the Shark Conservation of 2009 will be passed, but its pending in Senate.
I rant too much. I am going to go snack on yakult.
