Belgian Waffles.
I had my last golf tournament as a senior yesterday. I was feeling rather sick, its hell playing golf when you dizzy and nauseous. But it was my last tournament as a senior golfer and the last one before I go to Thailand for the final competition. It was worth it, my team won, and my partner and I won. We got a sleeve of golf balls. Score!
I was feeling so sick though, I could barely stand, sit or do much of anything. I went over to Joachim's house to babysit. I ended up lying down in his nice, soft bed, and we watched District 9 together. It was very sweet, he took nice care of me. And naturally, I cried throughout the movie and he did not.
BUT! WE MADE BELGIAN WAFFLES!
I have an obsession with waffles. Proper waffles, none of that shitty American Eggo-like shit. And I wanted a proper Belgian to make nice proper Belgian waffles for me, since he claimed to know what he was doing. He did. We made several sets for his sisters, and one for ourselves. I wish I felt better, the waffle was divine but I could barely eat any of it.
Seriously, the best waffles in the world. We added in the Sprite and Nutmeg to add dimension to the otherwise plain batter. It gives a nice depth. Here is the recipe :
BELGIAN WAFFLES: (by Joachim and Chrissy)
300 grams of self raising flour
75 grams of sugar
2 eggs
100 grams of butter
500ml of milk
a pinch of salt
+ we added in a whole lot of Nutmeg (I wanted to add in cinnamon, but he didn't have any) which turned the batter from beige to tan. And about 150 mL of Sprite maybe? I don't know, we did it by sight.
Mix the flour and sugar in a bowl.
Make a small hole in the middle to add the salt, the melted butter and the eggs. Stir gently.
Add the milk little by little. Stir gently until the batter becomes smooth.
Add in the Sprite and Nutmeg
Wait an hour, and then start baking the waffles.
And make sure you put butter on your waffle iron.
