On Friday, Adam, David, Joachim and I went to Babela's Kitchen.  We are cheap people (ironically we would spend over 1,000 kwai) and that they sold Pizza Hut like fare for 18 kwai (under 3 dollars) was a major sell point.  Plus, I want to see as many restaurants in China before I leave for uni.  I get bored and restless going to the same place.  

And it never hurts that  Babela's Kitchen has a trippy interior that was like something like a Hello Kitty/Mad Hatter Vomit fest.



The food wasn't great, it wasn't special.  As (Frenchie) David said "Its nice they have escargot".  But really.  Its not escargot - but garlic butter.  Not that you would expect quality for 18 kwai...which makes you wonder the state of the escargot and how sanitary they are...um.  The onion rings (18 kwai) tasted just as good as Burger King's, a pleasant surprise.  They were the best dish which we ordered.  

They had limited drink choices.  No cola's, no beers.  Just wine and smoothies and shots in test tubes (which was really syrup-y water).  The wine was pretty bad, but honestly you don't expect much if its 88 kwai.  The smoothies, which were 18 were also watery.  They had no flavor, and were really weak; for that money you can get a delicious juice at Juice Connection.  The best drink was the Oreo Frappé, it was actually decent (or tasted so from the lack of flavorful drinks). 






As for pizza...its a knocked down version of Pizza Hut.  The pizza just tastes plain, and for pan pizza its pretty flat.  I had to order a custom pizza (cheese) because they all had meat on them.  Even the crust was bland.

I guess for the price you pay, its an okay deal: bland pizza and watery smoothies.  Its edible, but its not an enjoyable meal.  The four of us spent around 200 kwai, and for that price there are so many other places we could have eaten at for cheaper (2 dollar noodles anyone?).   End of the line: If you want to eat cheap - do NOT go to Babela's.  Get cheap noodles.  If you want cheap Western Pizza do Melrose.  Or if you are Joachim, go to Pizza Hut.  At least I will eat the crusts of the pizzas.
