La Creperie

Last night marked our 5th time going to the Brittany restaurant, La Creperie.  Typically, I loath going to many of the same places twice.  They have to be really special to get the second or third go around.  After all, Shanghai is HUGE and its busting with so many great places.  Why get stuck going to the same thing if there is so much more out there, yeah?  It says masses that we have been there 5 times.  Even more so, we are a bit of crepe snobs.  After all, I grew up on Swedish pancakes, which while the two are not the same thing, the idea behind both is.  And Joachim is Belgian, which has to stand for something.

We love the place.  Plain and simple.  The atmosphere is great, simple with high chairs, and wood decor.  There is a book shelf that lines one wall, though its filled with cider bottles, and metal lighting.  The whole place is decked out in a slight a nautical theme, with pictures of lighthouses and the waiters in striped boating shirts.  It works in well, its not trying to hard.  After so many restaurants that are either overly ornate with lushness or fail at even attempting to present a nice interior, its great to be in an affordable restaurant with such a great setting.

The food never fails to impress.  Double bonus points for it always being with perfect timing.  And triple bonus points because its divine.  Like little angels.  Last night, we took the buckwheat crepe with smoked salmon, cream cheese, salad and lemon (me) as well as the crepe filled with tomato sauce, tomatoes, cheese, olives, and anchovies (Joachim).  Both were great, though mine was better - ha! Though I have a salmon-bias, and prefer light food.  I also took an apricot yogurt, because I had only had three earlier that day and needed more.  I love yogurt, its my primary food staple.  That this is my favorite yogurt in Shanghai, says a lot.  It tastes as if it's homemade, and has the perfect thickness texture, not to thick or thin.  It's nice and tart/sour plus it comes with a big dollop of jam on top! Just like how I eat it in America, where the yogurt quality is higher! So happy!  Last night I ordered the apricot yogurt, Joachim's suggestion, and have previously ordered blueberry.  I can't stress how wonderful it is.  The best part of the meal, the finale, is the desert crepes.  Sometimes when we eat in different restaurants in the same area, we will stop buy afterwords just for dessert!  Joachim got the hot chocolate and banana crepe, and I had the sea salt caramel with stewed apples.  Its like edible bliss, so wonderful.  I am at a loss of words, it's that good.  Ahh..

...I started daydreaming about eating more of the crepes.
